Yosemite National Park

I was pretty busy the last couple weeks sending applications and having job interviews. Hopefully, I will have more time writing blog entries in the future. Beginning from May, I will start working again.

One of the most amazing places in the United States - so amazing that I spent two full days exploring it - is Yosemite National Park. Beside Yellowstone, this is the one that also a lot of Europeans know (how many of us Europeans have heard of the Saguaro Nat´l Park?).
Even the road trip to Yosemite was pretty scenic and well worth the trip.

However, Yosemite itself leaves you speechless, there´s no way around...
And that is my problem right now: How can I express the feelings I had when I visited Yosemite? I believe, I can´t. I can only try to describe the locations, I fell in love with. Predominantly, those were the waterfalls. I have seen lots of waterfalls in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. They all were nothing compared to the ones in this national park. This is due to the panoramic scenery around. The mixture of peaceful silence paired with the forces of nature is breathtaking.

The first place I visited were the Upper Yosemite Falls. Imagine a waterfall that is 80 m higher than the highest building in Germany (the Berlin Fernsehturm), and almost as high as the Empire State Building. Standing right in front of the falls is awe-inspiring and an experience, everybody should at least make once in his or her life.

Another famous place is El Capitan, a rock that is admired by climbing ethusiasts. In 1989, this place was a shooting location for the movie Star Trek V. The monolith arises 1000 m above the surrounding area and is also a profitable object for imaging. I spent the evening looking at the changing colors of that mountain when the sun was setting. Spectacular, in lack of a better word...

In Yosemite, there are also huge trees, the so-called sequoias. But since I visited another Nat´l Park in which the biggest tree on earth is located, I will not amplify on this now.

Another nice waterfall is the Bridalveil Waterfall, which is "only" 190 m tall. Small compared to the Upper Yosemite Falls, but still more than twice as high as the Statue of Liberty!
After taking some pictures and listening to the falls, I went back to the motel, but not without taking pictures from the Yosemite Valley lookout (Tunnel View). This probably is the most fantastic overview one can get in the park.

As mentioned before, I went back to the park on the following day, mainly to take more pictures and to enjoy the panorama. Even though a lot of places were not accessible due to the time of year (for example the Half Dome), I very well could have spent three or four more days at the Yosemite National Park.
